Career Comparison

Two Finance Careers.

Two Very Different Futures

Both accountancy and treasury are respected career paths within finance.
But they focus on different things, lead to different opportunities, and
offer very different day-to-day working lives.

A Career in Accountancy

Accountancy is one of the most established professions in finance. It plays a vital role in every organisation – providing the financial reporting, compliance, and controls that keep businesses accountable.

  • Preparing financial statements and reports
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance and audit readiness
  • Managing tax obligations and financial controls
  • Analysing historical financial performance
  • Supporting budgeting and cost management

A Career in Treasury

Treasury sits at the strategic heart of an organisation. While accountancy looks back at what happened, treasury looks forward – forecasting, protecting, and growing financial resources to drive business success.

  • Forecasting cash flow and managing liquidity
  • Structuring funding and managing debt
  • Managing financial risk across markets
  • Influencing board-level corporate strategy
  • Driving growth through strategic financial planning
